By The Light Of The Moon ~ Ogunquit, Maine

Full
moons always capture my attention. Unlike staring into the sun (NOT!) I
am able to look into the bright and glowing light of the moon in all
its phases from new to full. Regardless of the time of the year, I will
stop whatever I am doing, and step into my backyard, putting out all
lights inside and outside, and sometimes I will just sit and stare into
the distant sky looking at the moon, watching wispy clouds caressing
the face and edges of this wonder. Last summer while walking about
Perkins Cove, in the evening, I was caught spell-bound by the brilliant
beauty of a full moon over the harbor waters. The beam radiating from
this full moon illuminated the drawbridge and the boats, its shafts of
lights creating reflections that bounced and rippled over the water. So
much to visually absorb. I tried to “paint” the memory of the images
within my mind, and then taking my camera secure on my tripod, I
attempted to capture these moments. Today, while reading about full moons, I learned that a full Blue Moon (an old-fashioned term) will be visible this weekend - May 21-22 - and even more alluring is that due to the rotation of the Earth, Mars will be closer to Earth than it has been in ten years. A Blue Moon and a Red Mars crossing paths …. a double wonder! |
